We believe one of the best ways to find inspiration is the creation of one's very own Cabinet of Curiosities, or Wunderkammer. Historically, 'Cabinets' consisted of relics, works of art, objects of natural history, and much in between that often denied classification. They served as reminders of the world's endlessly transforming history as well as giving a glimpse into cultures far different from the the collector's own. According to some, a person's Wunderkammer symbolically conveyed the patron's control of the world through its indoor, microscopic reproduction.

We don't know about the whole symbolic 'control of the world' thing, but prefer to think of it along more personal lines; in that we surround ourselves with objects and souvenirs that bring the things we love about the real world into a more intimate focus...

The Otherist is our version of the Cabinet of Curiosities. It's our chance to scour the globe in search of items that wow and amaze, and hopefully inspire. We seek the exceptional; the memorable; the unconventional; the other, and gather a collection of merchandise that highlights the stunning talent of artists and designers from around the world. Our focus is on the uniquely handmade, the one-of-a-kind and difficult to find. Much like the Wunderkammers of old, our collection is an ever-changing and oft-difficult to classify assortment bounded only by our own aesthetic. We gather it in the hopes of inspiring other to create their own Wunderkammers, with the added benefit being that ours is a wonderful source for you to peruse as you furnish your very own Cabinet of Curiosities.
